Heat Interface Unit Brands & Models UK

Identify a heat interface unit by its complete model and circuit arrangement, not just a brand logo. This hub links the phase-one manufacturer and supplier ranges so residents and property managers can request model-specific servicing, diagnosis or replacement.

    Manufacturer, supplier and component names

Danfoss, Caleffi, Baxi and Evinox publish heat-interface product ranges. Altecnic supplies Caleffi products in the UK, and SAV Systems supplies and partners on Danfoss FlatStation products. A distributor or supplier name may appear on a building record without making it the manufacturer of every assembly.

Valves, meters and controllers can carry different names from the cabinet. Record both the unit label and the faulty component identification, keeping them separate. The listed pages are independent service information, not claims of authorised manufacturer service or endorsement.

Ranges and installed UK building stock

These product ranges are offered for communal/district heat-network applications such as apartment buildings and mixed-use residential schemes. We do not claim a market share, a particular estate installation or a local case study without evidence. Units already installed may differ from current catalogue versions.

Older model support, spare parts and technical settings need checking against documentation and suppliers. Mechanical versus electronic, direct versus indirect and heating-only versus combined describe the configuration; they do not guarantee that one brand is inherently more reliable than another.

Information to include with a brand enquiry

Send the full make/model, serial number if readable, dwelling and site reference and fault behaviour. Include any visible control message and whether network works or other-flat complaints coincide with the fault. Nameplate photographs are helpful without removing covers or touching shared pipework.

Match the work to the installed HIU arrangement

Heat interface units are not all built in the same way. In a direct space-heating arrangement, network water passes into the dwelling heating circuit under the specified controls. In an indirect arrangement, a plate heat exchanger separates primary network water from a separate secondary heating circuit. That secondary circuit may have its own circulating pump, expansion vessel, pressure gauge and safety devices. Those components are not universal and must not be assumed to exist on every HIU.

Instantaneous domestic hot water is normally produced by transferring network heat to incoming cold potable water through a dedicated exchanger when a tap opens. It is not a promise that hot water reaches a distant tap immediately: pipe length, keep-warm arrangements, primary temperature and draw-off rate all affect the response. A heating-only interface has a different function and should not be diagnosed as a combined heating and hot-water unit.

Mechanical units use self-acting thermostatic or pressure-responsive controls for some functions; electronic units use sensors, actuators and a controller. Electronic does not necessarily mean remotely connected, and a mechanical hot-water control can coexist with electrically operated space-heating components. The nameplate, hydraulic drawing and instructions establish the actual configuration.

    Survey, authorisation and service records

For an enquiry, provide the service category, manufacturer or supplier name, model and serial number where readable, a description of the fault, postcode and access arrangements. Include whether the loss of service is continuous or intermittent and whether other flats are affected. A clear photograph of the closed unit and its nameplate is useful; it is not a substitute for testing and should not require dismantling anything.

The agreed work should identify who can authorise isolation, whether shared services may be interrupted and who is responsible for resident access. Parts are selected against the exact model and operating conditions, not simply their appearance. If further network investigation or a specialist metering task is needed, that limitation should be recorded before additional work is approved.

After intervention, the relevant heating and hot-water operation should be checked, settings and readings recorded, and any unresolved defects or access restrictions identified. For a block programme, asset references make the results traceable to each dwelling. Recording a fault is different from completing a repair; reports should distinguish work completed, recommendations and actions belonging to the managing agent or network operator.

    Booking and confirmed service coverage

HIU Service is operated by UK Gas Plumbers, a UK commercial engineering group. The website has a national heat-interface-unit focus, while confirmed delivery covers London and the South East/M25 through the central operation and Nottingham and NG postcodes through a regional service-provider network. Other regions can be submitted for assessment, but an enquiry is not confirmation that an engineer or local office is available.

Use Book an Engineer to open the central ServiceM8 booking operation. Request a Quote opens the same ServiceM8 booking form, where you can provide the technical and access information for your enquiry. An emergency or within-48-hours selection describes your requirement, not a guaranteed attendance time. Availability and the work scope must be confirmed.

Cost depends on diagnosis, isolation, access, the unit and its configuration, parts and any commissioning needed afterwards. Repairs, replacements and multi-dwelling programmes are quoted on request. Responsibility for authorisation and payment follows the building agreements rather than the physical location of the unit alone. Ask the managing agent or heat supplier if that boundary is unclear before commissioning shared-network work.
